ON behalf of all the hundreds of people being helped one by one with these funds, we thank you and the others who so generously have donated to relief and rehabilitation of the Haitian people struck by the earthquake.
NEWS FROM GCEEF.
OUR last events have been to do the following:
Clean up tens of tons of garbage under our direction which would have created flooding across the living areas from the rivers and gullies with UNDP monies and employment of 35 Haitians for several weeks;
Make contour and danger maps of flood, mud slide and debris slide areas and move people in tents out of these areas into safe areas, before the rains come;
Fit many people with prosthetic devices so that they could walk again;
Record and play over the radio stations, health songs " Stay out of the Gullies and Rivers", " Wash your hands with soap", and "Mosquitoes can make you sick" with back up music. These are now going to be played on 25 radio stations in Haiti before the floods hit. Really helpful people including Jim Hunt from North Carolina, Tod Landess of University of Miami Communications center, and of course, the very talented and energetic emergency physician Dr. Jack Allison who invents the melodies of the songs, the lyrics and is the English-speaking "rock star" of the series. Pierre Beaubrun of GCEEF is the Creole "rock star". These will be for you to hear very shortly.
Do public education about waterborne diseases, insect vectored diseases, and other transmissions in the schools , orphanages, churches, and women's groups in Gressier and surroundings.
The preventative phase is in high gear and we are now initiating the agriculture, microcredit of the systems supporting agriculture and the restoration of mangroves and seagrasses for fish for protein, and restoration of forests with microcredit for the fishermen.
PLEASE HELP! Contributions to help us obtain physicians’ and medical workers airfare to give treatment the injured and suffering for the relief necessary for large scale flooding not to occur can be sent to our web site on GCEEF.org utilizing our "donate button". We also need money for medicines, and simple medical supplies including old eyeglasses, and old dental equipment including the food and water for the workers. These contributions are the sole source to help all this effort. Our efforts get matching labor of physicians and nurses and now geologists and materials and medicines result in getting help to the suffering Haitians of at least 3.5 times more than your dollar. We need funds for generators, latrines, cots for patients, and food and transport for doctors. Rehabilitation is also commencing with farmers obtaining seeds and farm implements destroyed in the earthquake so food production can commence. Please help the Haitians.
